Visiting the home of our first president, George Washington, the day after the tragic attack in Nice, I am reminded of our long history of friendship and support.
George Washington planted this beautiful fleur de lis boxwood parterre in his Upper Garden in recognition and thanks for France’s critical support for our revolution. It has been recreated as it was in 1787 at his Mount Vernon estate. So much history has passed but the sentiment is as strong today as it was then.
Our thoughts and prayers are with France in these difficult times. We have faced much together and prevailed and we shall again. I look forward to returning to France and Nice this fall.
